Installation recommendations
Generally/typically for rearview mirror replacement the procedure below applies. The exact steps may vary depending on the specific design of the door and the equipment of the car.
1) Before assembly (checks of used part)
- Check that it is a right-hand mirror and that it has the required functions: electric control, heating, electric folding, temperature sensor.
- Compare the connector and number of pins (8 PIN / 6+2) with the old part.
- Verify condition of tilt mechanism (no excessive play), undamaged cover and glass, and undamaged wiring/grommet.
- Visually check that the attachment points are not cracked.
2) Necessary tools and materials (in general)
- Set of screwdrivers and bits (according to the type of connecting material in the door)
- Plastic pry bar for removing the upholstery (so as not to damage the plastic/upholstery)
- Ratchet/extensions (according to type of nuts/bolts)
- Contact cleaner (recommended) and cloth
- Insulating tape / cable ties to secure cabling (as needed)
3) Step-by-step assembly procedure
- Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery for safety reasons (especially for the electrical equipment in the doors).
- Dismantle the inner cover at the mirror (triangular plastic at the A-pillar) and, if necessary, release a part of the door trim so that you can get to the mirror attachment.
- Locate the mirror connector in the door and disconnect the electrical connector (do not pull the cables, but the body of the connector).
- Loosen the mirror fasteners (nuts/bolts) and hold the outside of the mirror with your other hand to prevent it from falling.
- Remove the old mirror and check the contact surface (dirt, gasket residues) – clean it.
- Prepare the new mirror: check the wiring, the grommet and whether the seal fits properly.
- Place the mirror on the door, align the position and manually screw the fastening so that the threads do not catch crookedly.
- Tighten the fasteners evenly so that the mirror sits firmly and the gasket fits well (without overstretching).
- Plug in the electrical connector and make sure it snaps in properly and the wiring is not pinched.
- Refit the covers/upholstery and check that all clips fit and do not give out.
- Connect the battery and turn on the ignition.
- Test the functions: mirror adjustment, folding, heating (depending on the car control) and basic control of the response of the temperature sensor (if display/control is linked to it in the equipment).
-
4) Post-assembly checks and test drive/function verification
- Check that the mirror does not vibrate while driving and is stable.
- Verify that folding occurs smoothly and without atypical sounds.
- After rain/washing, check that the seal fits well and does not leak into the door.
5) The most common assembly mistakes + how to avoid them
- Swapping the connector/pins: always compare the 8 PIN (6+2) with the old mirror.
- Pinched wiring: guide the harness so that it is not in contact with the edges of the sheet metal and is not pinched by the upholstery.
- Damage to upholstery clips: use a plastic pry bar and loosen gradually.
- Incorrect seating of the gasket: clean the seating surface and align the position of the mirror before tightening.
Reasons why the part is damaged
- Impact/abrasion (parking, narrow passageways) – cracking of the cover, breakage of the attachment or damage to the folding mechanism.
- Damage to electric folding – gear wear, dirt ingress or mechanical stiffness.
- Non-functional heating – broken wires, oxidation of connectors, damaged heating elements in the glass.
- Contacts/wiring problems – wire fatigue in door grommet, bad contact in connector.
- Temperature sensor damage – mechanical damage or moisture in the sensor/connector area.
