Installation recommendations

Generally/typically for replacing a complete rear-view mirror (exact procedure may vary depending on car design and wiring):

1) Before assembly (checks of used part)

  • Compare with the old piece: left side, KTVD type/design and matching functions (electric control, electric folding, heating).
  • Check connector(s) and harness: same shape, number of pins, undamaged connector locks.
  • Inspect plastic mounts and sealing surfaces for cracks; verify that the folding mechanism does not have excessive play.
  • In view of the stated condition, please verify the extent of paint scratches and whether you are satisfied.

2) Necessary tools and materials

  • Normal set of ratchets and bits / keys, screwdrivers
  • Plastic pry bar for removing upholstery/cover
  • Cleaning agent for degreasing contact surfaces, cloth
  • Possibly insulating tape/tapes to fix the cabling (depending on condition)

3) Step-by-step assembly procedure

  1. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery (short circuit prevention when working with connectors).
  2. Remove the inner cover in the area of the mirror (typically the triangular cover at the A-pillar) and gain access to the fixings.
  3. Disconnect the mirror electrical connector carefully (without pulling on the cables).
  4. Loosen the mirror fasteners and hold the mirror from the outside to prevent it from falling off and damaging the paint/door.
  5. Remove the old mirror and clean the contact surface from dirt.
  6. Place the new (used) mirror in place and check that the seal is properly seated.
  7. Tighten the fasteners evenly so that the mirror sits without tension and the plastic does not crack.
  8. Connect the connector and check that it clicks properly.
  9. Reinstall the cover/trim, making sure not to pinch the wiring anywhere.
  10. Connect the battery.
    • 4) Post-assembly checks and test drive/function verification

      • Check the functions: adjustment, folding and heating (depending on the car equipment).
      • Check that the mirror holds firmly, does not vibrate and fits correctly with the door.
      • After a short ride, check the stability of the attachment and any squeaks.

      5) The most common assembly mistakes + how to avoid them

      • Mismatched connector/pinning → always compare connectors and equipment (control/folding/heating) before assembly.
      • Pinched wiring when mounting the covers → run the cables in the original routes and check the grommets.
      • Paint and upholstery damage → use a plastic crowbar and protect the edges.
      • Overtightening/uneven tightening → tighten with sensitivity and evenly to avoid tension and cracks.

Reasons why the part is damaged

      • Impacts and abrasions (parking, narrow passages, contact with an obstacle) – typically cause cracks, chipping or paint damage.
      • Damage to the folding mechanism during violent tipping or freezing.
      • Moisture and corrosion of the contacts in the connector – subsequently control, folding or heating failures.
      • Drive/joint wear – backlash, mirror vibration while driving.
      • Thermal stress and aging of plastics – cracking of covers and handles.
