Installation Recommendation
- Park vehicle on a level surface and switch off ignition. Remove key from the ignition before starting work.
- Open the rear doors and remove the inner trim or access panel to reach the lamp fixing points.
- Unscrew the retaining screws or bolts and gently pull the lamp assembly outwards to access the electrical connector(s).
- Disconnect the wiring connector(s). If the lamp does not include the bulb holder, transfer the existing holder or install a new holder before fitting.
- Fit the new lamp, reconnect the electrical connector(s) and test all light functions (tail, brake, indicator, reverse and rear fog where applicable) before refitting trim.
- Use dielectric grease on connector contacts to reduce corrosion risk and replace any damaged seals to maintain water tightness.
- Re-tighten screws to the manufacturer’s specification and confirm correct alignment and sealing of the unit.
Most Common Failure Reasons
- Water Ingress Causing Corrosion Or Short Circuits—failed seals or damaged lens allow moisture inside the housing.
- Impact Damage—rear-end collisions or loading impacts commonly crack the lens or break mounting points.
- Connector Or Bulb Holder Corrosion—moisture and road salt can corrode contacts, causing intermittent lighting or failure.
- UV And Age-Related Degradation—lens yellowing or crazing reduces light output and appearance over time.
- Vibration And Mechanical Wear—loose fittings or worn sockets can cause poor contact and bulb failure.
