This is a driver-side pyrotechnic seatbelt pretensioner (pyro-pretensioner) with OEM code 8972WQ, intended for Citroën Xsara and Peugeot 306 vehicles. The unit instantly tightens the lap/shoulder belt during a collision to reduce webbing slack and improve occupant restraint. Supplied as an original PSA part, functionally checked during dismantling and offered as a cost-effective replacement for SRS/seatbelt repairs.
Function
In the event of a crash the airbag control unit sends a trigger signal to the pyrotechnic pretensioner. The small pyrotechnic charge activates and retracts the belt webbing toward the occupant, reducing forward movement and improving the effectiveness of the restraint system. The pretensioner works in conjunction with airbags to improve crash outcome.
Symptoms Of Failure
Common signs that a pretensioner is faulty include an illuminated airbag (SRS) warning lamp, stored SRS fault codes, or noticeably reduced belt tightening on the driver side. Installation Recommendations

Fit the pretensioner in the correct orientation for left/driver side and tighten mounting fasteners to the torque values specified in the manufacturer’s service documentation.
