Why This Part Fails Most Often
Bulb sockets in rear lamps are subject to heat, vibration, moisture, and oxidation, which are the primary causes of failure. Typical failure modes include:
- Corroded Or Pitted Contacts Causing Intermittent Or No Connection.
- Melted Or Deformed Plastic From Overheating (Often Caused By Poor Contact Or High Resistance At The Connector).
- Water Ingress When The Sealing Grommet Is Missing Or Damaged, Leading To Short Circuits Or Corrosion.
- Damaged Wiring From Mechanical Stress Or Rodent Activity.
With normal use, a socket can last many years; failures are more common in vehicles exposed to damp environments, salt, or frequent vibration.
Additional Notes
- Because This Item Does Not Include The Sealing Rubber, Replace The Grommet Or Verify The Lamp Housing Seal To Avoid Moisture Problems.
- Use Clean Bulb Contacts And Correct Bulb Type (P21/5W) To Prevent Overheating And Premature Wear.
- If You Encounter Repeated Contact Failures, Inspect The Wiring And Ground Connections For Corrosion Or Damage.
