Description

PEUGEOT 407 on-board display and navigation frame
Color HXN- – BLACK PEARL

Part description

This NAVI display frame is designed as a dashboard filler for the Peugeot 407 car. It serves to cleanly and firmly seat the dashboard display/navigation and at the same time completes the look of the interior. Thanks to the original design from PSA/Stellantis, it blends well with the surrounding parts of the dashboard and is suitable for repairing a damaged frame (cracks, broken handles, abrasions) or when replacing it with a piece in the right shade.

The shade HXN – black pearl is important for coordination with other parts of the interior.

Installation recommendations

Generally/typically for replacing the bezel (dashboard panel) the exact steps may vary depending on the trim level and the type of display/navigation fitted.

1) Before assembly

  • Compare the new part with the old one: shape, attachment, number and position of latches/screws, possibly holes for controls or grommets.
  • Check codes (96838140XN, 96846404XA, 8265GH) and HXN shade to match interior.
  • Check that there are no broken mounts, cracks or deformations that would prevent seating.

2) Necessary tools and materials (in general)

  • Set of plastic pry bars for dismantling interior parts
  • Screwdrivers / bits according to the fasteners used
  • Clean cloth, gentle plastic cleaner
  • Or small pliers to loosen the connectors (depending on the situation)

3) Step-by-step assembly procedure

  1. Turn off the ignition and, for work safety, disconnect the battery (minimize the risk of a short circuit when handling the dashboard).
  2. Prepare the space: cover the surrounding surfaces with a soft cloth so as not to scratch the decor.
  3. Using a plastic pry bar, carefully loosen the surrounding caps/slats that may prevent the frame from being removed.
  4. Locate and remove any frame mounting screws (if used).
  5. Gradually click the frame out of the latches – don’t pull on one corner, proceed evenly around the perimeter.
  6. If the frame is related to the display area, remove it in such a way as to not stress the wiring and connectors behind the display.
  7. Clean the seating surfaces and check the dashboard for any broken clips.
  8. First place the new frame “dry” and check that it fits and nothing prevents it from sitting.
  9. Snap the frame into all the handles one by one (again evenly around the perimeter).
  10. Reinstall the screws (if any) and return the surrounding moldings/caps to their original position.
  11. Connect the battery and perform a basic function check of the related elements (display/navigation if disassembly has been tampered with in any way).
    • 4) Post-assembly checks and test drive/function verification

      • Check that the frame is firmly held, does not come off anywhere and does not squeak when pushed.
      • Verify fit with surrounding dashboard parts and that there are no gaps.
      • When driving over bumps, listen for any squeals – they often indicate an unsnapped clip.

      5) The most common assembly mistakes + how to avoid them

      • Prying with a metal tool → use plastic pry bars, you will reduce the risk of scratches.
      • Non-alignment of the contact surfaces (remains of clip, dirt) → clean and check fit before assembly.
      • Shade/decor swap → look for the HXN marking and comparison with the original piece.

Reasons why the part is damaged

      • Plastic embrittlement due to age and temperature changes in the interior.
      • Incompetent disassembly (prying without loosening latches/screws) leading to cracks and broken handles.
      • Mechanical damage when installing audio/navigation or hitting the dashboard.
      • Surface wear (scratches, flaking) due to frequent contact and cleaning with inappropriate means.
