This activated carbon canister (OE references 9688540880 / 1502L2 / 1502K0) captures petrol vapours from the fuel tank and stores them until they can be purged into the engine. It is intended as a direct-fit replacement for affected Peugeot and Citroën models and is frequently searched by its part numbers. Function
The charcoal canister is part of the Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) system. It contains activated carbon that adsorbs fuel vapours from the tank. When conditions are right, the purge valve opens and engine vacuum draws the stored vapours into the intake manifold to be burned during combustion. Proper canister operation reduces hydrocarbon emissions and prevents fuel odour in and around the vehicle.

How To Replace
- Park the vehicle on a level surface and secure it with the parking brake. Use axle stands if the car must be lifted.

- Locate the canister (typically mounted near or under the rear of the vehicle, close to the fuel tank) and visually inspect surrounding hoses and valves.
- Disconnect electrical connectors and vacuum lines from the purge/vent solenoids. Label hoses if needed for correct reassembly.
- Remove mounting fasteners and extract the canister. Replace any worn clamps or damaged hoses during reassembly.
- Fit the new canister, reconnect lines and connectors, clear EVAP fault codes and perform a system check (smoke test or diagnostic scan recommended when available).
