Function And Common Symptoms

This switch controls the sunshade/sliding interior blind of the panoramic sunroof, sending commands to the roof motor and comfort module. Typical symptoms that indicate a faulty switch include intermittent operation, non-responsive shade, tactile play or loose button feel, or electrical faults such as blown fuses or parasitic draws when the switch sticks. Because this is a user-replaceable electrical control, replacement usually restores normal operation without the need to replace the roof motor or control modules—provided there is no underlying wiring or module fault.

Replacement Guide

Intended for experienced mechanics and confident DIYers. Basic replacement steps:

• Disconnect the negative battery terminal before any disassembly to avoid short circuits and to protect vehicle electronics.
• Remove the necessary headliner trim or switch bezel; on many models the switch is secured by clips or a couple of screws accessible from the roof lining or overhead console.
• Unplug the electrical connector from the old switch—note connector orientation and any retaining tabs.
• Fit the replacement switch, reconnect the connector and secure the bezel/headliner in reverse order of removal.
• Reconnect the battery, then test the sunshade function through full open/close cycles and check for abnormal noise or error messages on the vehicle’s dashboard.

Installation Recommendations

Work in a clean, well-lit area. Use plastic trim tools to avoid damaging the headliner and trim pieces. If any fault codes remain after fitting, clear them with appropriate diagnostic equipment and re-test the system. If uncertain about diagnosing electrical faults, consult factory repair data or a professional workshop with PSA diagnostic tools.

Why This Part Fails

Sunshade switches most commonly fail due to mechanical wear from frequent use, ingress of dust or moisture, and internal contact erosion leading to intermittent electrical connection. Heat cycling in the overhead console can accelerate plastic wear and connector corrosion. Rarely, wiring chafing or a related module fault can mimic switch failure—ensure wiring and connectors are inspected during replacement.

Notes For Buyers

This is a used, fully functional item and may show normal cosmetic wear. Verify fitment by comparing the part numbers listed above to the unit being replaced. Ordering by part number (96565343XT or 649032) speeds up identification and ensures you receive the correct switch.
