• Electrical Issues: Corroded connectors or damaged wiring can stop heating or folding functions from working correctly.
• Heating Element Failure: The demist/defog heater can fail after years of thermal cycling or due to internal damage.
• Environmental Exposure: Water ingress and corrosion reduce longevity, especially in older vehicles or where seals have degraded.

Practical Tips

• Test All Functions Before Final Reassembly: Verify adjustment range, folding action and heating to ensure a correct swap.

• Other Numbers: 8149VG | 96456984XT

Compatibility and Application

This left (driver side) mirror assembly is intended for Peugeot 407 models. It replaces factory-fitted electrically adjustable, electrically folding and heated mirrors that share the EYLC paint code. Always verify that the mirror’s connector type and mounting points match the vehicle’s door before installation.

Function and Common Faults

The mirror provides remote angular adjustment, power folding for narrow parking situations and an electric heating element to remove ice or condensation. Typical failure modes include mechanical damage from impacts, worn or seized folding motors, broken or corroded internal wiring and connector issues, or failure of the heating element due to moisture ingress. Electrical faults are more likely in vehicles exposed to salt and humidity. Physical impact is the most frequent cause of replacement.

Replacement Instructions

Recommended tools: trim removal tools, Torx/flat/Phillips screwdrivers, small socket set and a multimeter for function checks. Basic replacement steps:

• Carefully remove the interior door trim or triangular trim panel to access the mirror mounting nuts and electrical connector.
• Support the mirror from the outside while you undo the mounting bolts to prevent it dropping.
• Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the mirror assembly from the door.
• Fit the new mirror assembly, reconnect the electrical connector and loosely start the mounting nuts. Align the mirror, then tighten the fasteners evenly.
• Reinstall the trim panel and test all functions: adjustment, folding and heating. Check for correct operation and absence of rattles or binding.

Installation Recommendations

Install by a competent technician or an experienced DIYer. Protect electrical connectors from dirt and corrosion; apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the connector pins if appropriate. Do not force the folding mechanism—if it resists, inspect for obstruction or misalignment. After installation, verify operation in all positions and test the heated element. If the vehicle has mirror memory or integrated advanced features, confirm those functions operate correctly after replacement.

Why The Part Most Often Fails

Impact damage (parking knocks or collisions) is the most common reason for mirror replacement. Over time, motor wear, water ingress and corrosion of internal wiring or connectors can lead to loss of adjustment, folding failure or heater malfunction. Preventive care such as gentle folding, avoiding aggressive cleaning and keeping door seals in good condition reduces the likelihood of electrical faults.
